The We Rise Initiative is wholly focused on empowering women and girls
to rise above 21st century oppression and the stigmatisation of feminism.
We are working on utilising diverse forms of empowerment to benefit women and girls through education, general inspiration and the eradication of prevalent oppressive actions such as FGM and child marriage. This organisation aims not only to empower, but also to educate African women about their universal human rights, that many have unfortunately been denied in society today.
Through enhancing the socio-economic and political awareness of African women, We Rise aspires to become a global influence, positively affecting the lives of millions of African women and showcasing the brilliance that the average African woman can offer to the world.
The team at We Rise will be focusing on the following, prevalent issues that continue to affect African women today:
Sexual and domestic violence
Child marriage and FGM
Lack of access to education
Women’s representation in politics
The stigma against feminism
Three projects are currently running under We Rise: We Rise Nigeria, We Rise Ghana and Women of Africa. While We Rise Nigeria and We Rise Ghana will be focusing on the organisations prime objective, Women of Africa is an Instagram project showcasing African women and girls today. This project has been inspired by Humans of New York.
The We Rise Initiative is an African Non-Governmental Organisation that is committed to empowering African women to rise above the oppression of the twenty-first century and the stigma attached to feminism.
